 Clarence C. Braden created twentieth-century legends in Jefferson, which were publicized around the world and touched off a modern treasure hunt, when his troves of coins and gifts were discovered after his death in 1962. Boxes of coins were loaded onto a flat bed truck that delivered the to the Jefferson bank and kept clerks busy for days counting the nearly $60,000.
